Dr. David Naisbitt first met the lost Boys of Sudan through Christian missionaries. They explained that they had successfully rescued 37,000 boys from Sudan while fleeing from Muslim terrorists.  These boys are now scattered across America with the largest group in Omaha Nebraska. The boys that they were sheltering in Arizona numbered 800.

Dr. Naisbitt was shocked to learn that not only had these boys gone through hell while fleeing from Muslin assassins, they had been subjected to ritual mutilation. All of their lower front teeth including the canine anchor teeth had been gauged out with wooden sticks.

This unusual and extensive loss of teeth did not lend itself to traditional dental prosthetics. The bone had atrophied to a knife edge. Any denture pressure would cause lacerations internally.

Dental implants were the only viable solution but the cost was prohibitive. Due to the extreme loss of bone, conventional root form implants were ruled out for most of the boys.

The following series of pictures demonstrated the steps Dr. Naisbitt used to restore all lower front teeth to normal function, and appearance.

This is an unusual tooth loss pattern. Trauma is normally the primary cause for the loss of all anterior teeth. However in this case these teeth were avulsed with a sharp stick in a ritual mutilation.

Conventional partial dentures are extremely painfull with this advanced bone loss condition.

This picture shows why a denture would be impossible to use for biting. Any pressure on the gums causes this knife edge bone to cut into the gum. Root form implants are ruled out because even the narrowest implants are too wide to be inserted here. Auto grafts involve far too much expense and time in surgery. Augmentation has a low success rate over knife edge ridges.
